How Much Does Disability Pay?
There is no single disability payment figure, and any site quoting one is oversimplifying. SSDI comes from your own earnings record and does not vary by state. SSI starts from a federal standard and is reduced by your income β and that is where states differ, because some add a supplement and some add nothing. Choose your state for the local answer.
The 2026 federal SSI standard
For 2026, the federal SSI payment standard is $994 a month for an individual and $1,491 for an eligible couple. That figure rises each January with the cost-of-living adjustment, and it is the ceiling rather than the typical payment β countable income is subtracted from it.
Some states add a supplement on top. A few add a substantial one; several add nothing at all; most add something only for people in residential or assisted-living settings.
